Carey Hagan employs over 15 years of relevant experience in her work as a reference librarian at the Fairfax County Public Library in Fairfax, Virginia. Stepping into her current role four years ago, Carey Hagan immediately demonstrated her organizational capabilities. Today, Carey Hagan deals with a host of front desk responsibilities in addition to using early literacy tools and techniques in her children's services position. Under Carey Hagan’s guidance, an early literacy story time is now held on a regular basis, helping to expand the minds of Fairfax’s early readers. Prior to her duties at Fairfax County Public Library, Carey Hagan held a position at The Catholic University of America’s Mullen Library. Serving as a cataloger from 2004 to 2009, Carey Hagan worked primarily with doctoral dissertations and collaborated with senior staff. Carey Hagan also collaborated with senior staff to assign item priorities and deadlines. Moreover, Carey Hagan maintained maintenance of the library’s database, personally organizing vital records and holdings. Carey Hagan previously completed a challenging and educational internship at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., where she gained a solid understanding of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). OCLC is an organization that makes a wealth of information available via the Internet, and Carey Hagan is fully versed in utilizing this valuable resource. During her internship, Carey Hagan created a program to educate her peers about OCLC, teaching a course on this subject along with several other instructors. Carey Hagan received her B.A. in English and Russian Literature from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Also holding a M.A. in English and an M.S. in Library and Information Science, Carey Hagan boasts impeccable research skills and is highly experienced in the use of databases such as LexisNexis, FirstSearch, Dialog (now ProQuest Dialog), and MEDLINE. Currently residing in Arlington, Virginia, Carey Hagan enjoys running in her spare time.
